Your Cortland County weather forecast for Friday, May 6, 2022:

An area of low pressure will track into the Ohio Valley today, but high pressure over eastern Canada will try its best to block the northward progression of the rain.

The battle lines between the rain and dry air will be drawn right over Cortland County, with some areas seeing steady rain, others on and off showers, and possibly some northern areas seeing little to no rain at all.

The best chance for steady rain will be in the southern parts of the county. Just a handful of miles will separate the steady rain from little to no rain, with a narrow belt of intermittent showers likely over the middle or perhaps northern part of the county.

Rain will be possible at any time today, though the morning looks to have a slightly better chance for steadier rain. The driest part of the day will likely come after sunset as the rain retreats to the south.

Winds will be just a whisper from the east and southeast with speeds under 5 mph.

The lack of wind means the clouds and rain will have the biggest impact on temperatures and should hold highs in the mid to perhaps upper 50s. If the rain sets up even further south, upper 50s or even low 60s could sneak into the northern parts of the county.

Tonight, temperatures will settle into the mid 40s, where they will remain overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Rain showers possible. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs near 60.

Monday: Sunny with a few thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Tuesday: More sunshine. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
