Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (May 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Cazenovia

The Homer Trojans defeated Cazenovia with a final score of 10-8 at home on Saturday. With this win the Trojans improved to an overall record of 8-4. 

Homer was led by Hunter Riehlman (5 goals & 1 assist), Sam Bieber (1 goal), Logan Goodman (1 assist), Sam Sorenson (1 goal), Reid Partis (1 goal & 2 assist), Jake Calabro (2 goals & 2 assists), and Benjamin Bradhaw (12 saves). 

Cazenovia was led by Jack Wright (3 goals & 1 assist), James LaFever (1 assist), Wyatt Hartley (2 goals), DB Falge (1 goal), Brody Coleman (2 goals & 4 assists). 

Homer’s next game is now scheduled for Tuesday (May 10th) at Homer High School against Christian Brothers Academy at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to a 2-8 record after losing a tough game to Jamesville-Dewitt on Saturday with a score of 0-17. 

Jamesville-Dewitt’s goals were scored by Merris Kessler (4 goals), Brooke Bort (1 goal), Lindsey Hildreth (2 goals), Sydney Balotin (1 goal), Sadie Withers (3 goals), Macy Durkin (2 goals), Caroline Stone (1 goal), Cambell Endries (2 goals), and Nicolette Militi (1 goal). 

Cortland goalie Hayden Bulger made 6 saves in the game, while Lucy Keib made 2 saves for Jamesville-Dewitt. 

Up next, Cortland will host East Syracuse Minoa on Tuesday (May 10th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Homer vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Homer Trojans won a close game against Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 5-4 in order to improve to a 10-4 record. 

Homer was led by Elijah McMahon (1 run), Joey Case (2 hits, 4 RBI’s & 7 strikeouts thrown), Mitchell Earle (1 run & 1 hit), Zander Johnson (1 RBI & 2 strikeouts thrown), Maddox Johnson (1 hit), and Tanner Douglass (1 run & 1 hit). 

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Matt Sweeney (1 hit & 1 RBI), Nasir Williams (1 hit & 1 RBI), Aidan McGuire (1 run & 2 hits), Carter King (1 run & 1 hit), Jake Ogata (1 run, 1 hit & 2 strikeouts thrown), Tyler Kaelin (1 run & 2 hits), Aaron Ko (1 RBI), Will Cooper (3 strikeouts thrown). 

Up next, Homer will take on Mexico on the road today (May 9th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. Madison

The McGraw Eagles lost a close game to Madison with a score of 5-6. With this result, the Eagles have fallen to a 3-3 record. 

McGraw was led by Nolan Knickerbocker (1 run & 1 hit), Matthew Heath (1 hit), Nate Stiles (1 hit), Blake Bergey (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI & 3 strikeouts thrown), Jaydon Bassett (1 hit & 8 strikeouts thrown), and Riley VanLiew (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI).

Up next, McGraw will face off against DeRuyter for a double-header on the road on Tuesday (May 10th). The first game starts at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Madison

The McGraw Lady Eagles fell to an 0-7 record after losing to Madison 9-19.

McGraw’s next game will be on the road against DeRuyter this Tuesday (May 10th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Trumansburg

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Trumansburg in both games of a double-header on Saturday.
