Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Whitney Point

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Whitney Point with a final score of 15-11 on the road Tuesday evening. 

According to Marathon head coach Jamie Bush, the Lady Olympians were led by Catherine Newkirk (2 hits & 3 runs), Sezja Brooks (3 hits, 1 walk & 4 RBI's, Brooke Tillotson (2 hits), Audrey Jasper (2 hits), and Paige Hurlburt (2 hits).

Note: Individual stats for Whitney Point were not available by the time this article was written.

The Lady Olympians will now play Lansing on the road today (May 11th) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to an overall record of 2-7 after losing to East Syracuse Minoa with a score of 0-17.

Varsity Softball: Homer vs. Groton

The Homer Lady Trojans beat Groton 16-1 at home Tuesday afternoon. With this win, Homer now holds a 7-6 overall record. 

Homer was led by Lillian Luety (1 run, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 1 strikeout thrown), Karigan Quaile (1 run), Alexandria Kellaway (1 run), Morgan Brown (2 runs, 1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Melina Hage (1 run), Sara Cargen (2 runs & 1 hit), Cecelia Rappleyea (2 runs & 3 RBI’s), Catherine Apker (3 runs, 4 hits & 4 RBI’s), Jenna Henderson (1 run), Layla Read (2 runs & 1 RBI), Cameran Martin (1 RBI), and Riley Johnson (4 strikeouts thrown).

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost to DeRuyter with a score of 5-29.

With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an 0-8 record.

Up next, McGraw will play a double-header against Brookfield on the road this Thursday (May 13th). The first game is scheduled to begin at 4pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Cortland vs. Central Square

The Cortland Purple Tigers improved their overall record to 15-1 after defeating Central Square 5-2. 

Cortland was led by Max Gambitta (1 run & 1 hit), Tyler Blake (1 run, 3 hits & 1 RBI), Ethan Hay (1 run & 1 hit), Kooper Knabe (1 hit & 1 RBI), Andrew Partigianoni (1 hit), Caden Albright (1 run), Ethan Johnson (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), and Scott Hourigan (4 strikeouts thrown). 

Central Square was led by Trevor Boyce (1 run), Brian Weed II (1 hit & 1 RBI), Richard Fleishman Jr (1 hit & 1 RBI), Colby Fox (1 run & 2 hits), and Anthony Miga (1 hit & 2 strikeouts thrown). 

Cortland’s next game will be played against Carthage at home this Friday (May 13th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Eagles played a double-header against DeRuyter on Tuesday, where both teams won one game each.

Game 1

McGraw was led by Nate Stiles (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Blake Bergey (1 run & 1 hit), Thomas Lea (1 run), Blair Mulcahy (1 hit), Riley VanLiew (1 run), and Jaydon Bassett (4 strikeouts thrown).

Varsity Boys Tennis: Homer vs. Pulaski

The Homer Trojans defeated Pulaski with a team score of 5-0 at home Tuesday afternoon.

Here is a breakdown of Tuesday’s matches: 

  • First Singles: Homer’s Spencer Rusyniak defeated Pulaski’s Caiden Potter (6-1 & 6-0).
  • Second Singles: Homer’s Raymond Meng defeated Pulaski’s Carson Hathaway (6-0 & 6-0). 
  • Third Singles: Homer’s Nik Kruman defeated Pulaski’s Myer Butler (6-0 & 6-0). 
  • First Doubles: Homer’s Jake Camp & Conor Powers defeated Pulaski’s Austin Dufrane & Logan Trump (6-1 & 6-0). 
  • Second Doubles: Homer’s Jackson Henderson &  Brandon McLaughlin  defeated Pulaski’s Colton Dufrane &  Ethan Weigel (6-0 & 6-0).

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Dryden

The Marathon Olympians lost against Dryden with an overall score of 201-177 on Tuesday. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Lady Trojans beat Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) with a close score of 11-10 in order to improve to a 10-2 record. 

Homer was led by Camryn Calabro (5 goals & 1 assist), Kloey Roos (4 goals & 2 assists), Gracie Patriarco (2 goals & 2 assists), Maria Partis (1 assist), and Sarah Sovocool (10 saves). 

CBA was led by Amelia Bonacci (5 assists), Sydney Vaughn (1 assist), Madison Ceclia (1 goal), Gracie Britton (4 goals & 2 assists), Mia Kirch (2 goals & 1 assist), Lilah Kirch (3 goals), and Delaney Hayden (7 saves). 

Up next, Homer will play Jamesville-Dewitt on the road this Thursday (May 12th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 16-7 against East Syracuse Minoa on Tuesday. With this win, Cortland improved their overall record to 3-8. 

Cortland was led by Margaret Starr (2 goals & 4 assists), Lillian Call (7 goals), Gabrielle Cranfield (2 goals), Valerosa Gambitta (3 goals & 2 assists), Olivia Magin (2 goals & 1 assist), and Hayden Bulger  (5 saves). 

ESM was led by Morgan Purcell (1 goal), Maureen McGinley (1 goal), Anna Paduano (1 goal), Mackenzie Praxl (1 goal), Jaelynn Aldrich (1 assist), Rylyn Commisso (2 goals), Leah Rehm (1 goal), and Arianna Reed (8 saves).

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Trojans fell to an 8-5 record after losing a close game to Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) with a final score of 7-11. 

The Trojans were led by Hunter Riehlman (1 goal), Wyatt Wilbur (1 goal & 1 assist), Sam Bieber (1 assist), Sam Sorenson (1 goal), Reid Partis (1 goal), Jake Calabro (3 goals & 1 assist), and Benjamin Bradhaw  (10 saves). 

CBA was led by Declan Landers (2 goals & 2 assists), Dan Anderson (3 goals & 3 assists), Seamus Nicholson (2 goals), Joe Papa (1 goal & 2 assists), Dan Ludington (1 goal & 1 assist), Andrew Kohlbrenner (2 goals & 2 assists), and Matt Craybas (9 saves).

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a difficult game to East Syracuse Minoa with a score of 4-19. 

With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 1-12. 

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (4 goals), Joseph Banewicz (1 goal), Matthew Honan (7 saves), and Declan Vail (3 saves).
