Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, May 12, 2022:

Temperatures will continue to climb today for a taste of summer.

High pressure remains overhead, though some subtle changes will take place today.

First, after a sunny morning, thin clouds will build in for the afternoon. These clouds should filter some of the sunshine, though no precipitation will fall.

Next, atmospheric moisture will start to increase. After a morning with dry dewpoints in the 40s, the afternoon dewpoints will increase into the 50s.

Winds will be more southerly today as well, with speeds near 5 mph for the morning and increasing slightly for the afternoon. Top gusts will remain under 20 mph, though.

Afternoon highs have a good shot at breaking 80 degrees across the southern half of the county. Upper 70s are more likely to the north, especially in the hills. Valley locations could make it to 80 degrees.

The clouds should retreat tonight, but the increase in moisture will lead to some valley fog development overnight. Be ready for fog in the typical locations Friday morning if your commute in the summertime often turns foggy.

The increase in moisture will also keep nighttime temperatures up, with low 60s and upper 50s in the evening and low and mid 50s overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Friday: Sun and clouds. Very small chance for a stray shower or storm late. Morning lows in the low and mid 50s. Afternoon highs near 80.

Saturday: Sun, clouds, and a few scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Sunday: Sun, clouds, and a few scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Monday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
