Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, May 18

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, May 18, 2022:

An area of high pressure moving through this morning will be nudged aside by our next weather maker.

Sunshine early on this morning will get replaced by a layer of thin clouds. At first, the sun should still be able to filter through the clouds. As the day goes on, however, the clouds will become thicker and less sunshine will be available.

By the late afternoon, it will be overcast with a chance for some rain showers. Rain will become more likely during the evening and overnight, when steady rain will fall for several hours.

With the high passing overhead this morning, winds will be nearly calm. Even this afternoon, winds will be near or under 5 mph, coming in from the east. 

The wind will turn southerly during the night, increasing to 5-10 mph.

Temperatures will be a bit warmer than yesterday, but still a touch below the seasonal average. Look for afternoon highs in the low to perhaps mid 60s.

Evening temperatures will fall to the low 50s with overnight lows around 50 degrees.

Thursday: Morning and midday showers. Some late sun. Morning lows around 50. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.

Friday: Partly cloudy. Maybe a stray shower. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Saturday: Sun and clouds. Hot. Maybe some late showers or storms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s to near 90.

Sunday: Rain and thunder possible in the morning. Morning lows in the upper 60s, followed by late morning highs in the mid 70s. Afternoon temperatures in the low 60s.
