Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, May 21, 2022:

An early season blast of heat will bake the area today like it is July.

Southwest winds with speeds to 10 mph will continue to pump heat and moisture northward.

Temperatures are off to a running start after a warm night, and with plenty of sunshine throughout the day, should have little trouble quickly rising.

By the afternoon, temperatures will be topping out around 90 degrees. Higher elevations will stick to the upper 80s. With dewpoints rising into the mid 60s, it will feel a couple degrees hotter with the heat index.

All the heat and humidity will lead to an atmosphere primed for thunderstorm development, but without anything to trigger storms until possibly late in the day.

Even then, the best chance for thunderstorms will likely stay to the north and west. Still, a late afternoon or evening thunderstorm here cannot be ruled out.

Any storm that develops will have the capability to produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and maybe some hail. Most areas will probably not see any severe weather, though.

Evening temperatures will slowly fall into the upper 60s with overnight lows in just the mid 60s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Midday or afternoon thunderstorms, possible severe. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s.

Monday: An early shower. Some sun between clouds. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Tuesday: Clouds and some sun. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs near 70.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds. Some late showers possible. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
