Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, May 22

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, May 22, 2022:

A strong cold front will move through today, turning the weather noticeably cooler after a warm morning.

Ahead of the front this morning, skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. With southwest winds up to 10 mph, temperatures will rise quickly from a mild start.

By the early afternoon, temperatures will be reaching their peak in the low or even mid 80s. It will feel on the muggy side with dewpoints in the mid 60s.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop over our area during the early afternoon hours Sunday. A couple of the storms could become strong or severe with damaging winds and hail the primary severe threats. Frequent lightning will also be possible.

The storms should not last long, and as the front passes through, the thunderstorm threat will quickly come to an end by the mid afternoon.

A few more showers will be possible behind the front, along with some breaks of sunshine. Temperatures will take a quick dive into the 60s as winds turn to the northwest. Wind speeds will briefly flare up as the front moves through, but will settle in at 5-10 mph.

Nighttime skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Temperatures will continue to retreat with overnight lows reaching the mid 40s.

Monday: Some sun between clouds. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Tuesday: Clouds and some sun. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds. Some late showers possible. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Thursday: A few showers possible. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
