A Town of Cortlandville man was arrested last Wednesday after he allegedly pointed an unregistered rifle at an individual, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

Around 5 p.m. May 18, county sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on Bennie Road in Cortlandville. Deputies discovered that Cody B. Carroll, 27, pointed a rifle at an individual “during the course of argument over hunting” in the area, the report states.

The report noted that Carroll was in possession of a rifle that he “was not permitted to possess in New York State.”

Carroll has been charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing (both misdemeanors), and second-degree harassment and shooting within 500-feet of a dwelling (both violations).

Carroll was arraigned and released on one’s own recognizance. Further court appearances for Carroll have yet to be determined.
