A warm and humid airmass will set the stage for thunderstorms today as a disturbance in the jet stream moves in this afternoon to trigger the action.

There is a small chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm this morning, but most of the activity should stay well to the north.

Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning and into the first half of the afternoon. By the mid-afternoon, thunderstorms will start to develop, likely initiating near Lake Ontario.

Thunderstorms will drop southeast as individual cells merge into small clusters. A few strong to severe storms will be possible with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning.

Some heavy downpours are also possible, but the flooding threat is very low thanks to the recent dry weather and a quick forward speed for the thunderstorms.

A second batch of storms may fire up around sunset, extending the threat into the early evening hours.

In all, most areas will probably not see severe weather, but pockets of wind damage will be possible around the area.

Before the storms roll in, temperatures will top out near or just under 80 degrees. Non thunderstorm winds will be from the west and southwest at 5-10 mph.

Tonight, rain chances will drop, and some clearing will take place. Areas that see heavy rain may see fog develop. Partly cloudy to mostly clear skies will persist through the overnight.

Temperatures will drop through the 60s this evening and into the mid 50s overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Thursday: More clouds than sun. Some rain possible late. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Friday: Some morning clouds. Turning mostly sunny. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.

Sunday: Sun, possibly with a layer of thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.
