The Cortland varsity baseball team received a proclamation at Tuesday’s City of Cortland Common Council meeting, in honor of the Tigers capturing the Section III Class A title on Memorial Day.

Coached by Ben Albright, the sectional champion Tigers finished with a 20-3 record (13-1 mark in the SCAC Empire Division).

“Gentleman, what an accomplishment for sure,” City Mayor Scott Steve said.

The sectional crown was Cortland’s first one since the 2013 season, Albright noted.

“I’m super proud of this group,” Albright added. “They are extremely hard-working.”

The Tigers gifted Mayor Steve a game ball that was signed by all of the players and coaches.

“It was such a pleasure to see you guys work as a team,” Steve said of Cortland’s sectional title game on Memorial Day. “We’re very proud of all of you and your accomplishments. We’re excited to see your future from here on out.”

The Tigers also received a proclamation at Tuesday’s Cortland Enlarged City School District Board of Education meeting.
