Today will be one of the hotter days so far this year before an approaching cold front brings some late showers.

Skies will be a mix of sunshine and mainly thin clouds this morning. The clouds will gradually increase and thicken as the day goes on, and much of the afternoon may have muted or limited sunshine.

It should remain dry until the latter half of the afternoon, and even then, only a few scattered showers or perhaps a weak thunderstorm is expected.

Southwest winds will be breezy with speeds around 10 mph and gusts to 25 mph.

Temperatures will rise in a hurry this morning but will not quite reach their full potential as the clouds increase this afternoon. Look for highs around 90 degrees, especially in and around Cortland. More rural areas and hilltops will probably end up just shy of 90 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms will increase during the evening and through the overnight. Severe weather is not expected, and some areas could conceivably miss out on most of the rain once again.

Other areas, however, will see a decent shot of a half-inch or more of rain.

Evening temperatures will drop to around 70 degrees. The cold front will not make it through until late in the overnight, so overnight lows will remain warm in the mid 60s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Sun and clouds. Cooler. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Maybe a stray shower early. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs near 70.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows near 50. Afternoon highs near 80.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.
