County Sheriff’s Office: Man arrested for ‘criminal possession’ of firearm

A City of Cortland man was arrested this past Monday after he was found to be in “criminal possession” of a firearm, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

County sheriff’s officers responded to a call at an undisclosed address in the city, where they discovered that Joseph A. Woodman, 38, had an active bench warrant, the report states.

Woodman was then found to be in “criminal possession” of a firearm, the report states. The County Sheriff’s Office did not specify the type of weapon or any further details surrounding the arrest.

Woodman has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class-D Felony. He was arrested, arraigned and released on one’s own recognizance.

Woodman is scheduled to appear in city court at 9 a.m. July 19.
