A Cortland County man recently got into an accident due to “mechanical issues” with his vehicle, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

According to the report, George D. Santerre, 51, was driving a 1929 Ford south on Route 281 in the Town of Preble this past Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle suddenly “experienced a mechanical issue,” which led to the vehicle leaving the roadway and “striking the embankment,” the report notes. This caused Santerre to be ejected from the vehicle.

A helicopter airlifted Santerre to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for serious, but non-life threatening injuries sustained in the accident, the report states.

The County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Preble Fire Department, TLC Ambulance and Ron’s Towing.

According to the report, the accident remains under investigation.
