Town of Cortlandville officials officially broke ground on Phase Two of the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex this past Friday, according to a release by the town.

Phase Two, slated to be completed by spring of next year, is a $3.1 million project that includes the addition of two new turf fields.

According to the release, the new fields will accommodate baseball and softball, and could include youth soccer and lacrosse in the near future.

The Phase Two project will also include new dugouts, batting cages, a batting tunnel, lighting and additional parking.

The additions will complement the two turf fields currently in place at the complex, which opened play in 2019. Local Little League, high school and collegiate teams, along with the Cortland Crush summer collegiate baseball team and Prep Baseball Report, have used the two current fields so far.

Near the end of last month, Smith Site Development, a contracting company based in Binghamton, was awarded the Phase Two project.

Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex also includes a pavilion, an accessible playground, restrooms, and a trail for walking and high school cross country events.
