A Cortland man was recently arrested after he threatened a victim with a machete and “fought with officers” in his arrest attempt, according to a City Police report.

Last Thursday, city police officers responded to a disturbance on Pomeroy Street. It was discovered that John Case, of Port Watson Street, allegedly threatened a victim “while holding a machete to their throat” and verbally “threatening” the victim in the process, the report states.

City police officers found Case in front of the Pomeroy Street residence. Officers attempted to arrest Case, but he fought with officers on the attempt.

Case has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a felony); second-degree menacing, second-degree criminal trespass and resisting arrest (all misdemeanors); and second-degree harassment (a violation).

Case was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail with no bail. He is due to appear in city court at a date yet to be determined.
