A new month may begin today, but the summer will continue to roll on with a generally hot and dry pattern.

Today will be no exception with high pressure supplying plenty of sunshine. Fair weather clouds will mix in, as usual, but no rain is expected to fall.

With the high centered to our southeast, warm air will feed into our region on its backside. A steady southwest wind will blow at around or just over 5 mph. Top gusts will come in between 15-20 mph.

This will push temperatures into the mid 80s this afternoon. A few places could even reach the upper 80s, mostly in the southern reaches of the county and in the urban areas of Cortland.

The wind will persist tonight, keeping temperatures around 70 degrees well into the evening. Overnight lows will end up in the upper 60s.

A weak disturbance will approach after midnight and could bring a few stray showers or storms to the area. Substantial, widespread rain is not expected, though.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: A few scattered morning showers. Some sun later in the day. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds with a small chance for a late storm. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 90s, but lower if the rain chances increase

Friday: Mostly cloudy with showers and storms. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.
