An area of low pressure will move overhead today, dragging a cold front through the region as it does so.

Scattered showers will be possible at almost any time today. Any rain this morning should be light and brief. The mid to late morning hours will have the least number of showers in the area.

By the midday, the coverage of showers will increase and be joined by some thunderstorms. The rain will remain hit-or-miss, and some areas will probably get through the day with little to no precipitation.

During the afternoon, a few of the thunderstorms could briefly approach severe status with some strong winds. These should be rare and most areas will not see any severe weather.

Despite the ongoing chances for rain, most of the day will probably end up dry with varying amounts of sunshine between the clouds.

Winds will be from the south at around 5 mph into the early afternoon before turning to the northwest and increasing slightly behind the cold front. High temperatures should be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Tonight, a few stray showers will be possible along with some areas of patchy fog. Evening temperatures will quickly drop through the 60s on their way to overnight lows in the mid 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Morning clouds and a few showers. Then some sun. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Sunday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.
