The first day of September, and “meteorological” fall, will bring a small taste of autumn thanks to a predawn cold front moving through.

As the front clears the area early this morning, winds will turn to the northwest and become breezy. Wind speeds around or just over 10 mph will be possible this morning, with a few gusts approaching 30 mph.

The moisture associated with the front will offer a brief window for some isolated lake effect rain showers early this morning. Any rain that falls will be brief and most areas will remain dry. The northern half of the county stands the best chance for one or two of these stray showers.

Dry air will build in from there, keeping skies sunny with just some small fair weather clouds. Wind speeds will gradually drop during the afternoon.

High temperatures will probably not get out of the 60s, with upper 60s in the south and mid 60s across the north. A few places may briefly hit 70 degrees.

Clear skies and calming winds this evening will lead to a quick drop in temperatures, with low 50s within a couple hours of sunset. Some pockets of 40s may develop by midnight, but then a south wind will start to develop, halting the falling temperatures.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Friday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the upper 40s to near 50. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Saturday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Sunday: More clouds than sun. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Morning lows near 60. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Monday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
