Southerly winds on the backside of high pressure over New England will give temperatures a boost today.

After a cool start, the sunshine and south winds will add nearly 30 degrees to the temperature between this morning and this afternoon. Looks for highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees.

The south wind will be light, with speeds around 5 mph. Top gusts will come in around 15 mph.

Skies will be sun-filled and nearly cloud free. A few thin clouds will drift in late in the day, and a stray puff of fair-weather cumulus cannot be totally ruled out.

Winds will increase out of the south this evening with speeds closer to 10 mph and gusts to 20 mph. This should have more of an influence on the nighttime temperatures than the mostly clear skies will.

Expect evening temperatures to slip into the low 60s with overnight lows in the mid 50s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Sun and a few clouds. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Sunday: More clouds than sun. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Monday: Sun and clouds. Perhaps some rain showers. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Perhaps some rain showers. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
