Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Groton

The Homer Trojans improved to a 1-0-1 record after beating Groton 4-1 at home on Friday. 

Homer was led by Lance Heyer (1 goal), Kyler Crump (1 goal), Kyrius Townsend (1 goal), Brayden Fox (1 goal, 1 assist & 6 saves), Tristan Allen (1 assist), Evan Butts (2 saves), and Dominick Rosato (2 saves). 

Groton’s only goal of the game was scored by Carter Naginy. 

Homer’s next scheduled game will be played at home against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) on Tuesday (September 6th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Moravia

The McGraw Eagles fell to a 0-1 record after losing to Moravia with a score of 1-2. 

McGraw’s only goal of the game was scored by Chloe Rocker (assisted by Megan Stull). 

Heather Magee recorded a total of 9 saves at goal for McGraw. 

Up next, McGraw is scheduled to play Madison on the road this upcoming Tuesday (September 6th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Fabius-Pompey

The Homer Lady Trojans now hold a 1-0-1 record after tying 0-0 against Fabius-Pompey on Friday. 

Homer goalie Catherine Apker made 6 saves in the game, while Miranda Putnam also made 6 saves for Fabius-Pompey. 

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) on Tuesday (September 6th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Volleyball: Homer vs. LaFayette

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to LaFayette in four sets on Friday, bringing their record down to 1-1 to start off the regular season. 

Homer was led by Madison Wethje (16 assists, 3 aces, 9 digs & 1 block), Mallory Douglass (24 digs & 3 aces), and Lilly Sorenson (8 kills, 15 digs, 6 aces & 1 block). 

LaFayette was led by Chylure Bucktooth (29 assists, 3 kills & 1 ace), Layla Isaacs (13 kills, 16 digs & 4 aces), and Shayla Benedict (14 digs, 2 aces & 1 kill). 

Homer will look to get back on track on Tuesday (September 6th) as they host  Solvay at 6pm.  

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. Marathon

The Homer Lady Trojans hosted Marathon for a Cortland County match-up, where Marathon won 4-0. 

With this result Marathon now holds a 1-1 record, while Homer fell to 0-1. 

Marathon’s offense was led by Delaney Reilly (4 goals), Catherine Newkirk (1 assist), Jordin Chrysler (1 assist), Macie Hulbert (1 assist), Ellery Ensign (1 assist).

Homer goalie Aislynn Cobb made 19 saves in the game, while Cassandra Forrest made 3 saves for Marathon. 

Up next, Homer is scheduled to play on the road against Port Byron this upcoming Thursday (September 8th) at 6pm; while Marathon takes on Cortland on the road on Tuesday (September 6th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost 2-4 against ESM in the consolation game of the “Hornet Pride Tournament” on Friday. 

Note: Stats of the game were not available by the time this article was written. 

With this loss, Cortland now holds a 0-2 record. 

Up next, the Lady Tigers will host Marathon on Tuesday (September 6th) at 5pm.
