The McGraw Central School District Board of Education (BOE) met recently in the school library to recognize the participants of the Summer Internship Program and approve measures for the start of the school year.

McGraw’s next BOE meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the school library.

Student Interns Make Improvements

The meeting opened with a presentation on the work students accomplished on the school grounds over the Summer. A video was shown that featured students painting rooms and hallways, building a bike rack, and even landscaping to prevent erosion. Several of the student interns were present, and when asked what their favorite part of the work was, many cited working alongside their fellow students as a team as top highlight. The internship provided students with summer socialization, as well as new skills and a paycheck, all while making improvements to the district that will last for years.

New Additions

The board approved several measures for the 2022-2023 school year. This included updated safety plans, purchase of additional classroom furniture, and purchase of textbooks to support a new Physical Science course. The district safety plan is available online and includes information for students and parents about procedures and expectations during various emergencies.

The BOE also approved the hiring of additional personnel prior to the start of the school year. The district welcomes back three substitutes as well as newcomer LeRoy Marshall. Teacher aide Monique Marshall and varsity girls soccer volunteer Julie Allen will also join the McGraw Eagles this year.
