An area of low pressure will drag a cold front through the region today with showers and thunderstorms.

The best chance for dry weather will come during the first half of the morning. Clouds and some sun will be possible, and while a stray shower cannot be ruled out, most of the time it will be dry.

Rain chances will increase during the late morning and midday hours, continuing through the afternoon. Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be possible, possibly even persisting into the early evening.

It will not rain the entire time, though, and by the late afternoon, the chances for rain will be decreasing.

Any thunderstorms that rumble through will have a potential for heavy downpours, some strong winds, and small hail. A couple storms could briefly reach severe levels.

Winds will primarily be out of the southwest during the daytime hours with speeds if 5-10 mph. This evening, winds will drop and turn to the northwest.

Despite a warm start to the day, temperatures will not get much opportunity to rise as the rain increases later this morning and persists into the afternoon. Look for highs to be a humid 70 degrees or so.

Evening temperatures will quickly fall through the 60s and into the upper 50s. Overnight lows in the low and mid 50s are expected.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: Sun and clouds. Maybe a stray shower. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 60s.

Wednesday: Sun early with increasing clouds. Perhaps some rain by nighttime. Morning lows in the low 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Thursday: Periods of rain. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Friday: Cloudy with showers. Some late sun. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.
