Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 22nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a tough game against Fulton with a score of 2-4 at home Thursday night. 

Cortland was led by Stellar Seward (1 goal), David Kelchner (1 goal), and Paul Hansen (13 saves).

With this loss, Cortland currently holds a 1-7 record. 

Up next, Cortland will host Mexico on Saturday (September 24th) at 1pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans improved to an overall record of 4-1-1 after defeating Mexico 5-4 on the road.

Homer was led by Braydon Fox (2 goals & 2 assists), Lance Heyer (2 goals & 1 assist), Caleb Ficchi (1 goal), Ian Small (2 assists), and Kyrius Townsend (9 saves).

Homer’s next game will be played at home against Skaneateles on Saturday (September 24th) at 10am. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Eagles beat DeRuyter 2-1 at home Thursday afternoon. 

With this win, McGraw improved their overall record to 7-2. 

McGraw was led by Ryan Parks (2 goals), Nathan Stiles (1 assist), and Gabriel Kahle (7 saves). 

DeRuyter was led by Donald Chapman (1 goal) and Wesley Pforter (9 saves). 

McGraw will now look forward to play Cincinnatus for their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland this Saturday (September 24th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Cincinnatus

The Marathon Olympians defeated Cincinnatus with a final score of 3-1 after a close County rivalry game at Marathon High School. 

With this result, Marathon improved to an 8-2 record, while Cincinnatus fell to 3-3. 

Marathon was led by Kaiden Cornell (2 goals), Bryce Hartman (1 goal), Jacob Byron (1 assist), and Aydan Brown (1 assist). 

Cincinnatus was led  by Dominick Landers (1 goal) and Jack Stafford (1 assist).

Marathon goalkeeper Julian Spizzirri made 3 saves, while Dakota Stairs made 6 saves for Cincinnatus.

Up next, Marathon will play Southern Cayuga on Monday (September 26th) at 4:30pm; while Cincinnatus gets ready to take on McGraw in their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland this Saturday (September 24th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell 1-7 against Fulton Thursday night. With this loss, Cortland now holds a 1-5 record. 

Cortland was led by Lilly Call (1 goal) and Lauren Mott (10 saves).

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against East Syracuse Minoa on Tuesday (September 27th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 0-1 against Mexico, making them fall to a 3-4-1 record. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (11 saves) and Alex Kellaway (6 saves).

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost to DeRuyter with a score of 1-3 on the road Thursday afternoon. 

With this loss. McGraw has fallen to a 3-4-1 record. 

McGraw was led by Lexi McCall (1 goal), Megan Stull (1 assist), and Heather Magee (6 saves). 

DeRuyter was led by Rhya Richardson (1 goal & 1 assist), Avery Hillman (1 goal), Peytin Burrows (1 goal), Olivia Lidell (1 assist), Abby Stanton (1 save), Alyssa Cline (1 save), and Brianna Hannafan (1 save). 

McGraw will now look forward to shaking this loss off, as they play Cincinnatus for their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland this Saturday (September 24th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Homer vs. Mexico & Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Trojans played a tri-match against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) and Mexico Thursday afternoon. 

Homer lost to CBA with a team score of 209-193, and defeated Mexico with a team score of 209-255. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).
