Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 23rd)

Varsity Football: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Trojans improved to a 3-0 record after taking down Chittenango on the road Friday night. 

Homer’s points were scored by Wyatt Wilbur (2 rushing touchdowns & 2 touchdown passes), Sam Sorenson (2 rushing touchdowns), Reid Partis (2 receiving touchdowns), Gavin Brown (1 rushing touchdown), and Laramy Velazquez-Ramires (6 out of 7 extra point kicks made). 

Homer’s offense was led by Wyatt Wilbur (127 passing yards & 78 rushing yards)  Sam Sorenson (111 rushing yards & 2 receiving yards), and Hunter Riehlman (60 rushing yards & 41 receiving yards). 

Homer’s defense was led by Tyler Riehlman (6 tackes & 1 sack), Isaiah McMahon (1 tackle & 1 interception), Wyatt Wilbur (5 tackles & 1 sack), Sam Sorenson (3 tackles & 1 sack), and Dominic Burlingame (2 tackles & 1 sack).

 Up next, Homer will get ready to play Syracuse ITC at home next Friday (September 30th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Football: Cortland vs. Westhill

The Cortland Tigers fell 0-28 against Westhill last night on the road.

With this result, Cortland currently holds a 0-3 overall record.

Cortland’s next game is scheduled to be played at Cortland Jr/Sr High School on Friday (September 30th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Southern Cayuga with a close score of 1-0 at home Friday afternoon. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Abby Ensign in the second half of the game. 

Marathon goalie Brenna VanDee made 4 saves in the game, while Cennedi McCarthy made 23 saves for Southern Cayuga. 

With this win, Marathon now holds a 4-4 record. 

Marathon is now scheduled to play Dryden on the road this upcoming Tuesday (September 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. Cortland

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated the Cortland Lady Tigers at Homer High School with a final score of 1-0 Friday night. 

With this result, Homer improved to a 1-6-1 record, while Cortland fell to 0-4-1. 

Homer was led by Haley Tucker (1 goal), Isabelle Woodward (1 assist), and Aislynn Cobb (2 saves). 

Cortland goalie Ella Martin made 6 saves in the game. 

Up next, Homer will host Port Byron on Wednesday (September 28th) at 7pm; while Cortland hosts East Syracuse Minoa on Tuesday (September 27th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Marathon vs. Auburn

The Marathon field hockey team beat Auburn 1-0 in order to improve their overall record to 6-3 Friday evening. 

Marathon was led by Catherine Newkirk (1 goal) and Cassie Forrest (4 saves). 

Auburn goalie Abby Clark made 3 saves in the game. 

Up next, Marathon will play Afton on the road on Monday (September 26th) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Volleyball: Homer vs. Marcellus

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to 5-4 record after losing to Marcellus in three sets last night. 

Homer was led by Mallory Douglass (5 kills & 15 digs), Lily Sorenson (5 kills, 9 digs & 2 blocks), and Mackenzie Hubbard (4 kills & 9 digs). 

Marcellus was led by Sarah Louer (7 kills, 17 digs, 2 aces, 1 block & 1 assist), Chloe Kuttruff (23 assists, 6 digs & 1 ace), and Lauren Mahler (4 aces & 18 digs). 

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Westhill on Tuesday (September 27th) at 6pm.
