Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 26th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lions won 2-1 in overtime against DeRuyter to improve to a 5-3 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Dominick Landers (2 goals) and Canden Stafford (2 assists). 

DeRuyter’s only goal of the game was scored by Ryder Forrest (assisted by Nick Whitt).

Cincinnatus will now prepare to take on Stockbridge Valley at home on Thursday (September 29th) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Tigers fell to a 1-9 record after losing to East Syracuse Minoa (ESM) with a score of 0-3 Monday night. 

ESM’s goals were scored by Jackson Tedesco (1 goal), Joel Alvarez (1 goal), and Behudin Malkic (1 goal)

Cortland goalkeeper Paul Hansen made 17 saves in the game, while Reide Scolaro had 2 saves for ESM.

Cortland is now scheduled to host Oswego on Thursday (September 29th) at 7pm.  

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians tied 1-1 against Southern Cayuga Monday afternoon. 

With this result, Marathon now holds an 8-2-1 record. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (1 goal), Colton Howe (1 assist), and Julian Spizzirri (2 saves). 

Southern Cayuga’s goal was scored by Peter Angotti. 

Up next, Marathon will play Groton on the road this Wednesday (September 28th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved their undefeated record to 6-0 after beating DeRuyter 14-0 on the road Monday evening. 

Cincinnatus was led by Kyla Sustad (5 goals & 4 assists), Cassia Schuyler (3 goals & 1 assist), Jarisa Temple (1 goal & 3 assists), Lucy Finch (1 goal & 2 assists), Kaedence Latta (1 goal), Mandi Waltz (1 goal), Ava Larrabee (1 goal), Payton Gerrard (1 goal). 

Up next, Cincinnatus will hit the road to play Waterville today (September 27th) at 5pm.
