A tractor trailer crashed into a transformer pole in the town of Virgil on Monday, according to a report from Virgil fire chief Adam Brown.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Route 392 and Church Street early Monday morning in Virgil. The town’s firefighters arrived on scene a little after 8:45 a.m.
Once on scene, firefighters discovered the tractor trailer on its side. According to Brown, the accident caused the spilling and leaking of asphalt, diesel, engine oil, hydraulic fluid from the tractor trailer. Transformer fluid also leaked from the collision with the pole.
This prompted a request to the Cortland fire hazmat team for assistance with fluid containment.
Dryden ambulance was requested to evaluate the driver of the tractor trailer. No injuries were reported.
Crews contained the spilled/leaking fluid, cut the power to the fallen transformer, and uprighted and removed the tractor trailer from the area. The Cortland fire hazmat team departed the scene around 10:45 a.m., and Virgil’s fire department cleared the scene prior to 11:40 a.m.
The Virgil fire department was also assisted at the scene by the New York State Department of Transportation, state police, National Grid, CCSD, Doody Brothers Towing and Cortland County 911.
