Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 28th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Field Hockey: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost a close game against Moravia with a score of 1-2 Wednesday afternoon. 

With this loss, Marathon has a 6-4 record. 

Marathon was led by Delaney Reilly (1 goal), Audrey Ensign (1 assist), and Cassie Forrest (6 saves). 

Moravia was led by Brooke Proper (1 goal), Jordan Smith (1 goal), Gabriella Heim (1 assist), and Kaylee Miner (5 saves). 

Up next, Marathon will face off against Spencer Van Etten Central on the road this Friday (September 30th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. Port Byron

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to an overall record of 1-7-1 after losing to Port Byron with a final score of 0-7. 

Port Byron was led by MacKenzie McDowell (2 goals & 2 assists), Sadie White (3 goals), Kylee Cordway (1 goal), and Abby McKay (1 goal). 

Homer goalie Aislynn Cobb made 12 saves in the game, while Colleen Jump made 5 saves for Port Byron. 

Homer’s next game will be against Cato-Meridian at Homer High School on Saturday (October 30th). The game is scheduled to start at 10am. 

Varsity Cross Country: Cincinnatus vs. Multiple Schools

The Cincinnatus Lions competed against Cato-Meridian and Bishop Ludden on Wednesday. Each race was 3.1 miles long.

Here are some highlights and results of yesterday’s races of both the Cincinnatus boys’ and girls’ teams (Note: according to Cincinnatus Head Coach Mark Morrell, these results are still unofficial. We will be updating the scores as soon as we get the official results): 

Cincinnatus Boys

  • Eli Fuller came in 9th place with a time of 22:52
  • Garrett Frink placed 15th with a time of 27:44
  • Damon Moore finished 17th with a time of 31:36
  • Alan Cook placed 18th with a time of 36:33
  • Breyden Silva finished 19th with a time of 36:50
  • Xavier Phillips came in 20th with a time of 42:00

Cincinnatus Girls

  • Brooke Finn finished 10th with a time of 30:32 
  • Shannon Ryan came in 14th place with a time of 38:23
  • Arianna Silva placed 15th with a time of 57:29
