Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 5th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Cross Country: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Trojans competed in a dual meet against Chittenango on the road Wednesday evening. 

The Homer boys’ team lost with an overall team score of 42-18, while the girls’ team lost 46-17. (Note: Lowest score in Cross Country wins). 

According to Homer Head Coach Jim Baldwin, each race was 3.11 miles long. 

Here are some highlights of both the Homer boys’ and girls’ teams: 

Homer Boys

  • Matt Fish finished 3rd with a time of 20:27. 
  • Anderson Lowell came in 7th place with a time of 21:13. 
  • Christopher Boylan placed 9th with a time of 21:38. 

Homer Girls

  • Anna Aldrich came in 4th place with a time of 24:03.
  • Maggie Mahunik placed 11th with a time of 26:37. 
  • Brayden Partigianoni came in 12th with a time of 26:38. 

Varsity Cross Country: Cincinnatus vs. Fabius-Pompey and Mater Dei Academy

The Cincinnatus Lions hosted Fabius-Pompey and Mater Dei Academy for a meet on Wednesday. 

Each race was 3.1 miles long. 

Here are the highlights of both the Cincinnatus boys’ and girls’ teams

Cincinnatus Boys

  • Eli Fuller came in 8th place with a time of 22:00. 
  • Connor Johnson placed 12th with a time of 24:15. 
  • Garrett Frink came in 13th place with a time of 24:24. 

Cincinnatus Girls

  • Brooke Finn finished 2nd with a time of 31:25. 
  • Shannon Ryan came in 8th place with a time of 39:56. 
  • Justice Crane placed 9th with a time of 53:04. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Marathon vs. Groton

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a 7-6 record after beating Groton with a close score of 1-0 Wednesday evening. 

Marathon was led by Audrey Jasper (1 goal) and Addison Oram (1 assist). 

Marathon goalkeeper Brenna VanDee made 13 saves in the game, while Elisa Allen made 4 saves for Groton. 

Up next, Marathon will play on the road against Southern Cayuga this Friday (October 7th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Fulton

Fulton 2 3 5

 

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost 0-5 against Fulton. With this loss, Cortland now holds a 3-7-1 record. 

Fulton was led by Mya Carroll (3 goals), Emma Kerfien (1 goal), and Grace Clary (1 goal). 

Cortland goalkeeper Lauren Mott made 7 saves in the game. 

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against Jamesville-Dewitt this Friday (October 7th) at 6:30pm.
