The Really Free Market (RFM) is a local, community based food distribution. The focus of the RFM, as a project of Cortland County Mutual Aid, is to provide food and household goods in a judgment-free and supportive environment. With our current fundraising drive, we plan to continue to serve around 40 families a month, and provide some special holiday foods at the market in November, December, and January. Help us supply holiday fun and seasonal joy to the families and households we support!
The RFM started in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial stresses associated with shut-downs and lost work. The RFM has continued, twice a month, every month, for the last two years thanks to the dedication of many wonderful community members. We serve anyone who comes to shop, not requiring ID or registration. In the winter months, the RFM is held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at the Cortland Free Library at 32 Church St.
Cortland County Mutual Aid (CCMA) is a registered 501(c)3. We are neighbors concerned about our communities and helping to make sure those most vulnerable and affected by systemic injustice get the support they need. We are volunteer run, with no paid staff, and our aid comes directly from the community.
CCMA is an organization which exists to generate community power and collective action. We are anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and stand in solidarity with all workers, human and non-human alike, fighting for survival in a capitalist dystopia. Solidarity means recognition of mutual struggle, and liberation by any means necessary. Our collective work currently involves fighting to meet the basic needs of our community, including efforts to provide food and household goods at the RFM.
