The Village of Homer Board of Trustees unanimously approved the creation of a new position within the Homer Police Department at Tuesday’s meeting.
The position will be a part-time sergeant. Chief Bob Pitman noted he currently has a part-time sergeant in his department, but is looking to have two as part of his staff. Pitman mentioned his department had a full-time sergeant up prior to Sept. 2020.
“I’m just looking for someone to balance things out in the department,” he added, noting the hire will occur within the department.
Pay for the part-time sergeant position is to be determined, Pitman said.
The Homer Police Department currently has three full-time officers and “about a dozen” part-timers, Pitman said. He added that his department is one officer short of a full fleet.
