Construction for the Clinton Avenue Gateway Project is close to reaching the finish line, according to City of Cortland Department of Public Works superintendent Nic Dovi.

Dovi anticipated the project, which has stretched over the past few years, will reach “substantial completion” by the end of this month. Workers, he added, will install new sidewalks, paver installations, lighting, signal work and also put down temporary striping in the coming weeks.

Paving in the work zone section of Clinton Avenue took place near the end of October, and finished with top-course asphalt on Nov. 4, Dovi added.

Once construction wraps up at the end of November, the city’s plan is to “leave the appropriate detouring in place,” with the roadway open to “minimize (not eliminate) thru-traffic,” Dovi said

“The roadway will be open, but with specific lane closures for the anticipated finishes,” he noted.

Dovi foresees “minimal” work for the project in the spring, including final road striping, planting and final restoration.
