Cortland County legislators moved to appoint the new planning director at Thursday’s Agriculture, Planning and Environmental Committee meeting.

The appointment now hinges on approval from the full legislature at its session on Dec. 22. The county, however, is not ready to reveal who will be in charge of the planning department.

“This will now move forward to the floor, at which time, assuming everything goes well, we will be naming that individual on the floor as part of the amendment to that acceptance of this agenda item,” said Minority Leader Beau Harbin (D-LD-2). “But we are not prepared to state publicly yet.”

The newly unnamed planning director was also appointed to the Southern Tier Regional Planning Development Board, as well as the Central New York Planning and Development Board.

“Just for clarification for all members, this is just to put the planning director in so we're just being ahead and we don't waste a month with paperwork,” Harbin said.

Former planning director Trish Jesset resigned from her role earlier in October to take a position at SUNY Cortland. Alex Schultz stepped in as the interim planning director until the county found a replacement.
