Our first major winter storm of the season will continue for most of today with a Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect.

The second phase of this storm will unfold today as low pressure slowly makes its way from coastal New Jersey, along Long Island, and to near Cape Cod tonight.

This low will spread snow back into Central New York and the Cortland area. The snow will be steady at a moderate intensity for much of the day, with a general 3-6 inches of additional accumulation on top of what has already fallen. The snow will begin to taper off late this afternoon or early this evening.

Temperatures will spend most of the day between 32-35 degrees. This should help road crews maintain at least the main roads.

Travel conditions will be mixed, though, based on road treatment plans and recent snowfall intensity. Avoiding travel when possible is never a bad idea.

Winds will be light today, coming from the north and northeast at around 5 mph. Tonight, the wind will turn to the northwest and increase with speeds around 10 mph.

Evening temperatures will slowly fall into the low 30s as the snow continues to taper off to flurries. After the snow ends, temperatures will drop quicker, ending up in the mid 20s by dawn.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Sun and clouds. A few snow showers. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.

Sunday: Sun and clouds. A few flurries. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs near 30.

Monday: Sun and clouds. A few flurries. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Tuesday: Increasing clouds. Some light snow late. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
