A Cortland County woman is facing multiple charges following an investigation conducted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Social Services (DSS), according to a report.

Tanesha M. Bennett, 38 of Cortland, provided “fraudulent information” to the County DSS in regard to her residency and household composition, the report stated.

Between January and October of this year, Bennett received benefits in excess of $5,700, funds she was “not entitled to,” the report noted.

Bennett was arrested and charged with third-degree welfare fraud and third-degree grand larceny (both Class-D Felonies), and three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing (a Class-E Felony).

Bennett was arraigned, released and is now set to appear in Cortland city court next month.
