County man steals purse at thrift store

A Cortland County man was arrested on Wednesday after he stole a purse at a thrift store, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report noted that county sheriff’s officers responded to the Thrifty Shopper store in the town of Cortlandville.

Carl R. Sherman, 51, stole an individual’s purse inside the store, the report stated. Sherman left the store with the purse before officers arrived on scene.

The report noted that officers located Sherman, arrested and charged him with six counts of fourth-degree grand larceny (a felony) and petit larceny (a misdemeanor).

Sherman was processed, arraigned and released on one’s own recognizance. He is due to appear in Cortlandville town court at 1 p.m. Jan. 16.
