A man was arrested over the weekend in connection to a stolen vehicle from a different state, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report stated that David E. Thomas, 45 of Virgil, stole a vehicle from a residence in Pittston, Pa. before bringing it into New York state. The county sheriff’s office worked with the Pittston Township Police Department on the investigation.

Prior to the respective department’s findings, county sheriff’s officer responded to a call on Starr Road in the town of Cortlandville in regard to a suspicious activity complaint. Officers discovered the reported stolen vehicle “ran out of fuel,” the report noted. The report continued that occupants of the stolen vehicle left the area and the vehicle in a driveway on Starr Road.

Thomas was located on New Year’s Day for an unrelated investigation. According to the report, Thomas was arrested due to multiple warrants and for the possession of a stolen vehicle.

Thomas was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class-E Felony). He was released and is now set to appear in Virgil town court on Jan. 24.

Thomas was then sent to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office in regards to the warrant that was out for his arrest.
