Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Liverpool

Team 1st 2nd 3rd Final
Cortland-Homer 2 1 2 5
Liverpool 0 0 0 0

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles improved to an 8-1 overall record after defeating Liverpool 5-0.

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitch Riter (2 goals & 1 assist), Andrew Partigianoni (2 goals & 3 assists), Chris Yang (1 assist), Hunter Everle (1 assist), Rowan Dankert (1 assist), Finn Thomas (2 assists), Johnathan Henry (1 goal), and Garret Clark (7 saves).

Liverpool was led by James Welch (28 saves) and Trevor Smith (27 saves).

“Tonight had all the makings of a trap game,” said Cortland-Homer Head Coach Paul Quinlan. “It was the second night of a back to back, and after a big league game last night and another big league game against Skaneateles on Tuesday; I was happy with how committed the team was to not looking past Liverpool. We preach one game at a time, and tonight we looked ready for the challenge. We were able to implement some things tonight that we have been working on in practice, and I was happy to see the results. Garret got another shut out, and we had a lot of guys on the scoresheet. Secondary scoring is an important metric for us, so that is a good sign.”

Up next, Cortland-Homer will take on Skaneateles at the JM McDonald Sports Complex this upcoming Tuesday (January 10th) at 7pm.
