Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 12th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Indoor Track & Field: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (Twilight Invite)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the “Twilight Invite” meet at SUNY Cortland Thursday evening. 

Here are some individual highlights from both the Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams: 

Marathon Boys

  • Robert Anderson won 1st place in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:36.86) as well as in the 300 meter run (Time - 40.94). 
  • Landon Barnhart came in 3rd place in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:07.92). 
  • Andrew Edsall placed 2nd in the 1,600 meter run (Time - 5:19.08). He also came in 5th place in the pole vault event (Result - 6’06”). 
  • Justin Baez placed 6th in the shot put event (Result - 27’02”). 

Marathon Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco won 1st place in the 300 meter run (Time - 49.53) as well as in the pole vault event (Result - 8’06”). She also finished 2nd in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 5:38.88). 
  • Abigail Edsall finished 2nd in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:54.08). 
  • Shaelin Phillips placed 3rd in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:09.96).
  • Nora Prestigiacomo placed 4th in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:11.10).
  • Sophia Hansen finished 6th in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:14.23). 
  • Rylee Thomas came in 5th place in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 6:41.61).

Varsity Indoor Track & Field: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (Twilight Invite)

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the “Twilight Invite” meet at SUNY Cortland Thursday evening. 

Here are some individual highlights from both the Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams: 

Cortland Boys

  • Christian VanPatten placed 1st in the 3,200 meter run (Time - 13:05.28). He also came in 3rd in the 55 meter hurdles (Time - 15.81). 
  • Jack Phelan won 1st place in the 55 meter dash (Time - 6.91) as well as in the long jump event (Result - 19’0.50”) and the triple jump event (Result - 39’03.50”).  
  • Spenser Dodds placed 2nd in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:06.12).
  • Joe Banewicz placed 6th in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:43.35). 
  • Feodor Kalytyuk finished in 4th place in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:47.83).
  • Ford Egnor placed 5th in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:51.64).
  • Tyler Gilbert came in 2nd place in the 300 meter run (Time - 43.15). 
  • Anthony Underwood placed 5th in the 300 meter run (Time - 46.09). 
  • Duncan Harbin won 1st place in the shot put event (Result - 41’0”). 
  • Bryan Honan placed 2nd in the shot put event (Result - 37’11”). 
  • Mike Dearie placed 3rd in the shot put event (Result - 32’03”). 

Cortland Girls

  • Lillian Call placed 1st in the 3,000 meter run (Time - 11:59.62) as well as in the 600 meter run (Time - 1:42.05). She also came in 2nd in the 55 meter dash (Time - 8.02). 
  • Bailey Dintino won 1st place in the 55 meter dash (Time - 7.93). She also placed 3rd in the long jump event (Result - 13’08.50”). 
  • Olivia Magin won 1st place in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 3:48.25). She also came in 2nd in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:07.76). 
  • Sarah Williams placed 3rd in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 4:03.69).
  • Madison Thompson finished in 4th place in the 1,000 meter run (Time - 4:09.46).
  • Ruby Mullally placed 5th in the 600 meter run (Time - 2:12.09). She also placed 3rd in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 6:16.87). 
  • Campbell Bush won 1st place in the 55 meter hurdles (Time - 9.99). 
  • Sarah Williams came in 2nd place in the 55 meter hurdles (Time - 10.40).
  • Darah Peck placed 4th in the 55 meter hurdles (Time - 12.46). 
  • Alexis Brown placed 6th in the 1,500 meter run (Time - 6:53.60). 
  • Kendall Mullally came in 4th place in the 300 meter run (Time - 51.55). 
  • Ashley Merritt placed 5th in the 300 meter run (Time - 51.95). She also placed 4th in the long jump event (Result - 12’05”). 
  • Maude Terwilliger placed 2nd in the triple jump event (Result - 29’09.75”). 
  • Morgann Doane came in 3rd in the triple jump event (Result - 28’11.75”) and in the High jump event (Result - 4’04”).  
  • Cailiyah Van Dee placed 6th in the shot put event (Result - 14’04”).

The Homer Trojans lost a tough game against Marcellus on the road with a score of 63-47. 

Homer was led by Izaiah Beard (14 points), Evan Butts (14 points), and Wyatt Wilbur (12 points). 

Marcellus was led by Will Burnett (22 points), Mitch Donegan (11 points), and Pat Louer (11 points).

With this loss, Homer now holds a 3-7 record. 

Up next, Homer will host Westhill on Saturday (January 14th) at 11:45am.

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a close game with a score of 41-48 against Marcellus Thursday night. 

With this loss, Homer has fallen to a 5-7 record. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (26 points) and Madison Singleton (5 points). 

Marcellus was led by Cece Powell (26 points) and Corrine Aldrich (8 points). 

Homer’s next game is scheduled to be played at home against Skaneateles on Friday (January 20th) at 6:45pm.

The McGraw Lady Eagles fell to an overall record of 0-7 after losing 23-36 against Otselic Valley Thursday night. 

McGraw was led by Lexi McCall (11 points), Allie West (5 points), and Heather Magee (4 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Miranda Hackett (18 points) and Tori Foster (8 points). 

Up next, McGraw will play on the road against Morrisville-Eaton on Tuesday (January 17th) at 6pm.
