Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 16th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Fabius-Pompey

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved to a 9-1 overall record after beating Fabius-Pompey in three sets Monday night. 

Cincinnatus was led by Caitlyn St. Germain (25 assists, 3 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs & 4 aces), Allyson St. Germain (8 kills, 15 digs & 3 aces), Shannon Ryan (8 digs, 2 kills, 1 block & 1 ace), Kaedance Latta (7 kills & 7 digs), and Cassia Schuyler (14 digs). 

Fabius-Pompey was led by Sierra Kolod (5 kills, 2 aces, 18 digs, 1 assist & 1 block), Maddy Haaf (4 kills, 1 ace & 15 digs), and Myrah Unger (3 kills, 4 aces, 1 assist & 11 digs). 

Up next, Cincinnatus will play Sandy Creek on the road this Thursday (January 19th) at 7:30pm.

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill

The Cincinnatus Lions lost a tough game against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (VVS) after three sets Monday evening. 

Cincinnatus was led by Ace Eckert (4 aces, 1 kill & 2 digs), Colton Maroney (2 aces & 2 kills), and Dom Landers (1 ace, 1 kill & 3 assists). 

VVS was led by Willow Rissman (7 aces, 2 assists & 3 digs) and Cole Paradis (3 aces, 1 kill & 6 assists). 

“This is the first year Cincinnatus has had Boys Volleyball in about 20 years,” said Cincinnatus Coach Cheyenne Nowalk. “We knew we had a tough road ahead of us, learning the ins and outs of varsity volleyball. With that being said, the boys are improving significantly every game.” 

With this loss, Cincinnatus now holds an 0-2 record. 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played on the road against Canastota on Tuesday (January 17th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Madison

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost a close game against Madison with a score of 27-30. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an overall record of 4-7.

Cincinnatus will now look forward to playing against McGraw at home this Wednesday (January 18th) at 6pm.
