Local law enforcement agency offering snowmobile safety course

A local law enforcement agency is offering a snowmobile safety course soon.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is holding the course on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Cortlandville Fire Station on 999 Rt. 13 in the town of Cortlandville.

The course will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Space is limited for the course. Those looking to attend it must pre-register here.

Information about youths for the course:

Youths between the ages of 10 and 13 years may operate a snowmobile, on lands upon which snowmobiling is allowed, if they have completed a snowmobile safety training course recognized by New York State and accompanied by a person who is at least 18 years of age. Youths between the ages of 14 and 17 who do hold this certificate may operate a snowmobile without adult or other supervision.

No lunch will be provided at the course, but a lunch break will be given. The course is sponsored by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
