The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Oswego 55-46 at home Friday night in order to improve to a 4-8 record.

“I feel like tonight’s game went really well”, said Cortland senior Marvin Bell. “It went a lot better than it has in the past. We just went and had fun out there.”

“We played great team defense and moved the ball well on offense,” added Ben McGrath. “Earlier in the season we weren’t able to fully piece a game for all four quarters. We played a good half or three quarters, but then we would have one quarter where we would fall and let it  bite us in the end. Today we were able to put everything together, especially with our defense of focus the whole game.”

Cortland was led by Marvin Bell (19 points. 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block & 2 steals), Carter Baum (18 points, 2 rebounds & 3 steals), and Ben McGrath (13 points. 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block & 2 steals).

“Tonight it was about our seniors stepping up and performing,” said Cortland head coach Jeremy Milligan. “We’ve been working hard to try to get healthy. Unfortunately one of our seniors (Emerson Johnson) was not able to be here tonight, but tonight was all about our seniors stepping up. I am so proud of Carter Baum. He has been inconsistent shooting the three, but we know his capabilities, and tonight he came out and found the bottom of the net consistently. Ben and Marvin are also such great workforces clearing defense of boards and playing great defense. We are all really proud of our seniors for stepping up and getting us back on the winning track.”

Up next, Cortland will play Fowler on the road on Tuesday (January 24th) at 6:45pm.
