Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 27th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Eagles lost a tough game on senior night against Stockbridge Valley with a score of 49-56. 

With this loss, McGraw now holds a 10-5 record. 

A total of six seniors (Gaven Truman, Nate Stiles, Kryshtin Whible, Nick Sutton, Lucas Monroe, and Daltyn Busby) were celebrated at last night’s game. 

McGraw was led by Caleb Epp (15 points), Nate Stiles (11 points), and Krysthin Whibble (9 points). 

Stockbridge Valley was led by Nick Hofmeister (19 points) and Charlie Cross (12 points). 

Up next, McGraw will play on the road against Cincinnatus this upcoming Tuesday (January 31st) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Brookfield

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Brookfield 53-49 in order to improve to a 2-10 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (19 points), Tucker Latta (17 points), and Jack Stafford (11 points). 

Brookfield was led by Bryce Smith (15 points), Drake Alsante (15 points), and Daniel Head (13 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played at home against McGraw on Tuesday (January 31st) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Tioga Senior

The Marathon Olympians fell to a 4-10 record after losing 60-82 against Tioga Senior Friday night. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (33 points) and Bryce Hartman (15 points). 

Tioga Senior was led by Evan Sickler (32 points) and Gavin Fisher (19 points). 

Up next, Marathon will play Union Springs at home this upcoming Monday (January 30th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Girls Wrestling: Lilly Sorenson (Homer) and Melodie Sutton (Marathon) compete in first ever NYS girls wrestling invitational

Local female wrestlers Lilly Sorenson (Homer) and Melodie Sutton (Marathon) competed in this year’s first-ever New York State girls wrestling invitational at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College Friday evening. 

Lilly Sorenson placed 2nd overall in the 185-pound weight class.

The Homer Trojans defeated Lansing in a dual meet with a team score of 60-10 Friday evening.

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles improved to a 13-2 record after beating Ithaca 5-3 on the road Friday night. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitch Riter (2 goals & 1 assist), Andrew Partigianoni (3 assists), Hunter Everle (2 goals), Aidan Farron (1 goal), Ryan Spalding (1 assist), and Garret Clark (23 saves).

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Faith Heritage

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost a tough match against Faith Heritage in four sets Friday night. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to a 9-3 record.
