Most of today will be quiet and pleasant, but a late cold front will usher in harsh conditions.

Clouds will mix with sunshine over the daytime hours today. Clouds are a bit more likely than sun in the morning, but in the afternoon, that should reverse with sun more likely than clouds.

Either way, no precipitation is expected throughout the daytime hours.

Southwest winds will steadily blow, with speeds of 5-10 mph this morning and near or just over 10 mph this afternoon. Top wind gusts should be just over 25 mph.

Warmer air will build in on these winds with highs reaching the mid 30s. Early evening temperatures will slide back into the upper 20s.

During the latter half of the evening, most likely sometime between 10 PM and Midnight, an arctic cold front will blast into the area from the north.

Accompanying this front will be a quick but intense snow squall. Heavy snow, strong winds, and low visibility will make for difficult travel conditions during the squall.

The squall itself will probably last a half-hour or less, but immediately temperatures will start to fall and strong northwest winds will set up. By Friday morning, temperatures will be around 5 degrees with wind chills already around -10 degrees.

Some areas of lake effect snow will also try to develop behind the front, with locally another inch or so accumulating overnight.

The snow from the squall and any lake effect will easily blow around, causing blowing and drifting conditions.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Friday: Windy with flurries and squalls. Temperatures most of the day around or just over 5 degrees. Wind chills below -10 throughout the day, dropping to -30 overnight.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. A few early flurries possible. Morning lows between -5 and -15, depending on terrain and cloud cover. Afternoon highs around 20 degrees.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. Temperatures rise overnight to the mid 20s by dawn. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. A few snow showers. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs near 30.
