Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 9th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Skaneateles

The Cortland Tigers improved to a 5-13 record after defeating Skaneateles 63-56 on senior night.

Five Cortland seniors (Carter Baum, Marvin Bell, Emerson Johnson, Daniel Reagan, and Ben McGrath) were recognized at the game. 

Cortland was led by Ben McGrath (19 points), Marvin Bell (16 points), and Emerson Johnson (14 points).

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against East Syracuse Minoa on Friday (February 10th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Brookfield

The Cincinnatus Lions had a successful senior night after beating Brookfield 55-30 Thursday night. 

Four of Cincinnatus’ seniors (Tucker Latta, Matt Kemp, Kris Loomis and Dakota Stairs) were recognized at last night’s game. 

Cheerleaders; Alayna Holtmart, Athena Nenno, and Alyssa Sherrod were also honored at last night’s game.

Up next, Cincinnatus will host their last game of the regular season against Stockbridge Valley on Tuesday (February 14th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a tough game against Mexico Thursday evening with a score of 51-63. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (25 points), Eila Spanbauer (6 points), and Catelyn Ensign (6 points).

Up next, Homer will host Chittenango on Friday (February 10th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 31-37 against Stockbridge Valley on Thursday. 

McGraw was led by Lexi McCall (12 points), Hannah Wilson (8 points), and Hailey McCall (5 points). 

Stockbridge Valley was led by Marlie Brummer (14 points) and Abby Smith (13 points).

This was McGraw’s last scheduled game of the season. 

McGraw ended their season with an overall record of 1-12.

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an 0-9 record after losing in three sets to Sauquoit Valley on the road.

Cincinnatus was led by Colton Maroney (3 kills, 3 blocks & 3 digs), Eli Cree (5 blocks & 2 digs), and Caleb Baker (2 kills & 2 digs).

Sauquoit Valley was led by Zack Murphy (5 aces, 2 kills & 7 assists), Nick Giuliano (2 aces, 6 assists & 2 digs), and Mason Farwell (2 aces, 6 kills & 2 blocks).

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play Herkimer on the road on Friday (February 10th) at 6pm.
