Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 13th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Groton

The McGraw Eagles defeated Groton 73-54 Monday night in order to improve to a 13-6 record. 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (31 points), Caleb Epp (17 points), and Jaydon Bassett (10 points).

Groton was led by Mason Slade (16 points) and Ben Dematteo (11 points). 

This was McGraw’s last game of the regular season. 

According to Section III, there will be a seeding meeting on Wednesday (February 15th) where McGraw will find out who will be their first sectional tournament opponent. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians defeated Southern Cayuga 73-59 Monday night. 

With this win, Marathon now holds an 8-11 record. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (41 points) and Jacob Byron (10 points).

Southern Cayuga was led by Brandon Vanacore (20 points), Isaac Brozon (14 points), and Brandon Ryan Jr. (10 points). 

Up next, Marathon is scheduled to play at home this Thursday (February 16th) against Oneonta at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Herkimer

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an 0-10 record after losing in three sets to Herkimer Monday evening. 

Cincinnatus was led by Colton Maroney (6 kills, 7 aces, 1 block & 2 hits), Dom Landers (7 assists, 2 kills, 1 ace & 2 digs), and Caleb Baker (3 kills, 6 digs & 1 assist). 

Note: stats for Herkimer were not made available by the time this article was written. 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played on the road against Westmoreland tonight (Tuesday, February 14th) at 7pm.
