Cortland County Section III Boys & Girls Basketball Sectional Seedings and Matchups Announced

The section III varsity basketball regular season recently ended, and many Cortland County teams made it into their respective sectional tournaments.

Here are the upcoming Section III tournament matchups for each Cortland County team that qualified for sectionals: 

Cortland Purple Tigers

Boys Basketball

The Cortland varsity boys basketball team will be the #16 seed in the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament. They ended the regular season with a 6-14 record.

The Tigers will host #17 seed Oneida in the first round of the tournament on Thursday (February 16th).

Note: The game was originally scheduled start at 7pm; but got moved to 4pm.

Girls Basketball

The Cortland varsity girls basketball team are entering the Section III Class B playoffs as the #3 seed after finishing their regular season with an overall record of 16-4.  

The Lady Tigers are ranked #22 in the state according to the New York State Sportswriters Association

Cortland obtained a first round bye, and will play their round of 16 game at home this upcoming Saturday (February 18th) at 3pm. Cortland will host the winner of the game between Cazenovia (#14 seed) and South Jefferson (#19 seed), which will be played at Cazenovia High School on Thursday (February 16th) at 5:30pm.

Homer Trojans

Boys Basketball

The Homer boys basketball team will be the #18 seed in the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament, after ending their regular season with a 6-12 record. 

The Trojans will play the first round of the tournament on the road against Syracuse ITC (#15 seed) on Thursday (February 16th) at 6:30pm.

Girls Basketball

The Homer varsity girls basketball team will be the #18 seed in the Section III Class B playoff tournament, after finishing their regular season with a 7-13 record.

The Lady Trojans are now scheduled play on the road against #15 seeded Clinton in the first round of the playoff tournament on Thursday (February 16th) at 6pm.

Cincinnatus Lions

Boys Basketball

The Cincinnatus boys basketball team are the #20 seed in the Section III Class D Sectional Tournament. The Lions ended their regular season with a 4-14 record. 

The Lions are scheduled to play on the road against Town of Webb (#13 seed) in the first round of the tournament on Thursday (February 16th) at 7pm.

Girls Basketball

The Cincinnatus girls basketball team will enter the Section III Class D playoff tournament as the #10 seed, after ending their regular season with a 7-10 record. 

Cincinnatus will play #9 seeded Belleville-Henderson on the road in the first round of the tournament. The game is scheduled to take place on Friday (February 17th) at 6pm.

McGraw Eagles 

Boys Basketball

The McGraw boys basketball team will enter the Section III Class D playoff tournament as the #6 seed, after finishing the regular season with a 13-6 record. 

The Eagles are scheduled to host Faith Heritage (#11 seed) in the round of 16 of the tournament this upcoming Friday (February 17th) at 6pm.
