A large, sprawling high pressure system over the southern United States will nose its way into the northeastern parts of the country, including here in Cortland County.

With the high centered to our south, the clockwise flow of air around the high will have winds out of the southwest today. Wind speeds will be up to 10 mph with gusts around 20 mph.

Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. It should not be completely overcast at any point, and some periods may be without any clouds at all.

Temperatures will rebound from a cool start to highs around 40 degrees. This is still slightly above average for mid-February.

Tonight, clouds will gradually increase and thicken. No precipitation is expected, however.

Evening temperatures will drop back into the mid and upper 20s, where they will then hold for much of the night.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Sunday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Monday: Cloudy with some rain showers, ending with some flurries. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with rain showers. Higher than usual uncertainty. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Higher than usual uncertainty. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.
