McGraw boys basketball beats Faith Heritage; Cincinnatus girls lose to Belleville Henderson in first round of sectionals

Both the McGraw boys basketball team and the Cincinnatus girls basketball team played their first round of their respective sectional tournaments Friday night. 

Here is a recap of both games from Friday night: 

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Faith Heritage (1st Round of Sectionals)

The 6th-seeded McGraw Eagles defeated 11th-seeded Faith Heritage in the first round of the Section III Class D tournament with a score of 68-61.

The Eagles were led by Gaven Truman (18 points, 4 steals & 2 rebounds), Caleb Epp (18 points, 7 rebounds & 8 assists), and Jaydon Bassett (10 points, 18 rebounds & 1 assist). 

Faith Heritage was led by Westin Retzos (28 points), Landon Bregou (11 points), and Jack Marziale (10 points). 

With this win, the Eagles now hold an overall record of 14-6 and have advanced to the quarterfinal round of sectional play. 

According to the Section III website, McGraw is scheduled to play their quarterfinal game on Wednesday (February 22nd) against the winner between 3rd-seeded Madison and 19th-seeded Morrisville-Eaton. The exact time for the quarterfinal matchup is yet to be announced. 

However, the game between Madison and Morrisville-Eaton will be played at Madison High School on Saturday (February 18th) at 7pm. 

If Madison beats Morrisville-Eaton, then McGraw will play Madison on the road on Wednesday (February 22nd); but if Morrisville-Eaton defeats Madison, then McGraw will host Morrisville-Eaton on Wednesday (February 22nd).

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Belleville Henderson (1st Round of Sectionals)

The 10th-seeded Cincinnatus Lady Lions lost 25-46 against 7th-seeded Belleville Henderson in the first round of the Section III Class D playoff tournament. 

Note: stats of the game were not made available by the time this article was written. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus ended their season with an overall record of 7-11.

Belleville Hendrson is now scheduled to play 2nd-seeded Poland at Poland High School on Tuesday (February 21st). The time of the game is yet to be announced, according to the Section III Website.
