Local high school wrestlers received their seeds for this weekend’s New York State Division II championship tournament at the MVP Arena in Albany.

Homer’s Sam Sorenson is the top seed in the 215-pound bracket. The senior, sporting a 46-0 record, will look to grab his second-straight state title and third overall of his high school career (won a state title in Wyoming).

Sorenson receives a bye into the second round. His opponent will depend on the winner of the first-round match between Oneonta’s Jayden Zakala (32-9) and Petrides’ Juan Vasquez (24-8).

Marathon’s Logan Jamison (30-7 record) is making his second trip in a row to states. He will face Hackley’s Will Rao (29-7), the 22nd seed in the bracket.

The winner of the match between Jamison and Rao will move on to face sixth-seeded Colin White of Adirondack (43-3) in the second round.

The state tournament will officially get underway with first-round matches at 10 a.m. Friday. The championship bouts are slated for Saturday evening.
