Homer senior Sam Sorenson capped his illustrious high school career with another title at the New York state wrestling tournament in Albany over the weekend.

He grabbed his second-straight NYS crown at 215 pounds, and the third time he’s made the podium in his NYS career (finished fifth at 220 pounds in 2020).

During this past weekend’s state wrestling tourney, Sorenson recorded back-to-back pins to reach the semifinals. In the semis, the senior won by a 4-0 decision over Trevor Barry of Iroquois (Section VI).

Sorenson moved on to championship bout against Evan Day of Salem/Cambridge (Section II), where he recorded a pin at the 3:16-mark to reach state supremacy once again.

Sorenson finished his time in high school wrestling with a 196-16 career record, which includes winning 130-straight matches and three-straight undefeated seasons. He also captured a title at the Wyoming state high school wrestling tournament in 2021.

The now-Homer wrestling legend will take his career to the next level at Army-West Point, a Division I program competing in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.
